Writing Again

Come one, come all, everyone who has stopped checking this blog because I abandoned it for a year or so.

I am currently working what the artistic derisively call the "day job," and what everyone else calls retail. Ironically, I'm making less, have worse hours, and less prestige, than when I was in high school. I'm hoping this can be attributed to the economy.

I didn't think I cared about sales. But somehow, when I'm there, I want to win. Maybe I'll be good at navigating Hollywood after all? I thrill to the chase.

It's Different Every Time

I Am A: Lawful Good Human Wizard (2nd Level)

Ability Scores:

Strength-14

Dexterity-14

Constitution-14

Intelligence-17

Wisdom-12

Charisma-14

Alignment:
Lawful Good A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. He combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. He tells the truth, keeps his word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion. However, lawful good can be a dangerous alignment because it restricts freedom and criminalizes self-interest.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Class:
Wizards are arcane spellcasters who depend on intensive study to create their magic. To wizards, magic is not a talent but a difficult, rewarding art. When they are prepared for battle, wizards can use their spells to devastating effect. When caught by surprise, they are vulnerable. The wizard's strength is her spells, everything else is secondary. She learns new spells as she experiments and grows in experience, and she can also learn them from other wizards. In addition, over time a wizard learns to manipulate her spells so they go farther, work better, or are improved in some other way. A wizard can call a familiar- a small, magical, animal companion that serves her. With a high Intelligence, wizards are capable of casting very high levels of spells.

To finish the circle

Hi all,

Sorry for the long delay. The new semester started with a bang, or a shoot, rather, as I finished up production on my senior project. I'm still waiting to get the camera that will serve as a transfer deck so I can start editing. Good news: my sound designer is still willing to write me an original score! I might even take this film to festivals if everything keeps going really well.

This semester I am rounding out a few more skill areas with learning to draft and compose. I feel like I now know a little about a lot! Woohoo! 'cause that's the way I like it. Hopefully I will know enough in the right areas to get a job.

I actually made some pretty photograms this morning, so that's good. You really think they would have film majors learn something like, I don't know, COMPOSITION.

I am enjoying hanging out with everyone again for movie nights and homework parties and stuff. Good times.

Beginning of the End

I am in rehearsal for my film final project.

I know what my last classes are.

Tomorrow I turn 21.

The world would be such a grand place if people didn't destroy one another and leave each other out in the cold.

I'm going to tell them that.

Disturbing

We were discussing the ethics of lying in Senior Seminar this week. I was greatly disturbed to find that the class listed as "desirable" reasons for lying: to maintain relationships, to avoid conflicts, to escape negative consequences, to protect a "child's world" (i.e. Santa), to protect your own image. Perhaps some of these are socially "acceptable" - but desirable? If this is the view of my Christian contemporaries, how can I trust anyone? The only time I see lying as desirable is if it is practiced within a defined set of rules, such as games like "Peanut Butter" or gifts such as surprise parties. Lying may also be "necessary" to preserve a greater good than honesty (depending on the circumstances), such as someone's life. But it's desirable to lie to protect one's own image?

I could perhaps understand if the question was interpreted to mean "desirable when I consider only my own feelings." I asked the class whether this is the view they were taking. Everyone remained silent.

What is happening?

Dance the Night Away

I seem to have a better time at dances the more I go to; this Homecoming dance was pretty rockin'. Not that they played much rock. Anyway, I loved my dress, I knew a lot of people, I felt like I was really moving well, and I didn't feel left out most of the evening. All pluses.

And today I have some sweet hang-outs planned with my friends, and then I'm going over the final draft of my screenplay tonight.

Go me!
